Joshua Tree Celebrates 100 Years

Join the park staff at Oasis Visitor Center on Thursday, August 25 at 10am for birthday cake and celebration of the National Park Service's 100th birthday. Superintendent David Smith will officiate over cutting of the cake and provide remarks regarding this monumental milestone.

On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill that created the agency "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wildlife therein, and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations". For the last one hundred years, the National Park Service has been doing just that. As an agency under the management of Department of the Interior, the NPS oversees 412 units and employs over 23,000 people all mandated with the responsibility of looking after our nation's most precious natural and cultural resources.
